- Wim took an early
start...
I
was born on August 24, 1955.
At a very young age I started to play the E flat
Clarinet, but decided in 1969 to switch to the
drums. Together with my older brother we created a
band, which became known under the name of The
Flails, from a place in
Holland
called Kethel. In a very short time this band became
very popular and soon we had our fan club, toured
under the name of Jada
in
Holland
and nearby countries.
During my studies I also worked at Phonogram, a
record company in
Hilversum
, where amongst others, Boudewijn de Groot (famous
Dutch folk singer) was working as a producer. After
my studies I added two years of drumming and
percussion at the Conservatorium in
Rotterdam
.
Another band in which I played with great pleasure
was Flame, a resident band
from
Rotterdam
, in which besides Peter Vlietstra (ex Free),
also
Henk Kloppers
(ex Rocking
Thunders) played. Thru Henk I got to know Fred
“Nonni” Severin (also ex Rocking
Thunders), but it would take many years before
Fred and I would share the stage together. After
Flame,
I started to work as a session drummer, and as such
played for many bands and in many professional
groups.
In the year 2001, I heard of an opening by Magic
Dave and the Wheelers and I decided to take
this opportunity to meet those guys, of which one of
them was… Fred “Nonni” himself. In any case,
we got along straight away and I decided to take the
position on the spot and as of today I am still part
of this band.
One evening I got a call from Henk, nothing unusual,
as we call each other often, because we remained
very close friends. However, this time the call had
a business tone to it, as he was desperately trying
to get some musicians together to help another
friend to save his party. No big deal I thought by
myself, and that’s how I rolled into came2play.
It
was a great evening; the music was just fine, and
the reaction of the audience so extremely positive,
that it was clear to me that not staying together as
a band would be a waste of talent. So, I was glad to
hear that we decided to keep this thing on the road.
Though, playing on two bands can be hazardous to
ones health and private life, I am happy to have met
the came2players, as the music we make does come
over as very fresh and with a very positive drive.
MEET THE OTHER MEMBERS...
